The Institute was established as a result of a fusion of Drug Institute and Central Laboratory of Sera and Vaccines, both located in Warsaw. It was given the name of National Institute of Public Health. The new name, National Institute of Medicines, was introduced on December the 8th , 2006, according to the Regulation of The Minister of Health from November the 3rd , 2006
(Dz. U. No 210 pos. 1554).

 

National Medicines Institute

Research

NMI (Polish abbreviation - NIL) carries out research connected with quality of medicinal products and with application of new analytical methods. Microbiological examinations concerning presence of bacterial virulence factors, estimation of specific antibodies levels as well as determination of drug resistance of clinical microorganisms are performed as well.


Quality Control of medicinal products

All departments of the Institute offer services concerning complex evaluation of medicinal products and medical devices. Microbiological expert's opinions and genetic analyses are offered as well.

Basic activity of the Institute concerns the scientific research as well as control testing of medicinal products, medical devices, safety and efficacy of their application appropriate to the actual need of people and animals health care, scientific development and research connected with introducing new medicinal products into the pharmaceutical market.

Activity of the Institute also focuses on lowering the frequency of infection outbreaks by using tests results obtained to identification, control and prevention of selected biological threats.
National Medicines Institute is the governmental institution participating in health care system fulfilling governmental health policy and European Union recommendations.

The Institute, acting on the behalf of national and European governmental institutions, is responsible for the quality, safety and efficacy of medicinal products and medical devices available on the Polish market. Acting according to EU recommendations, National Medicines Institute carries out the tasks of National Medicinal Products Control Laboratory which is equal to OMCL (Official Medicines Control Laboratory).
