Activities
Quality control of medicinal products:
Statutory control of medicinal products quality, safety and efficacy; evaluation of analytical dossier of the following groups of medicinal products:- Vitamins (one compound products or multivitamins with minerals), natural oils, i.e.: cod liver oils and fish oils or plant oils with vitamins, vitamin metabolites and derivatives
- immunological substances, as interferons, growth factors, monoclonal antibodies
- blood products
- natural and synthetic peptides, aminoacids and their derivatives
- enzymes and their derivatives
- mukopolisaccharides
- natural and synthetic protein hormones as insulin, erythropoietin
- cytostatics (etoposide, cyclophosphamide)
- synthetic antidiabetic compounds
- products of animal organs
- medical devices for diagnostics
- cyto- and genotoxicity of medical devices
- food special for medical purposes (FSMP)
- biopharmaceuticals (products of biotechnology)
The wide spectrum of analytical methods is used in the Department including: spectrophotometry, spectrofluorometry, flame photometry, chromatographic methods (TLC, HPLC), electrophoretic methods (CE, CPS, PAGE, IEF), densitometry, enzymatic methods, and also biological and biochemical tests in vitro and in vivo, RT-PCR, PCR, microarray.
The Department currently uses many tests in vitro based on the bacterial, animal or human cell cultures. These are: Ames test, MTT or EZ4U test, test with neutral red or trypan blue exclusion, micronucleus test, comet assay, SOS-chromotest, tests for immunomodulatoring activity evaluation, tests for detection of anti-HIV-1/2 and antigen HBs
The Department organizes summer laboratory trainings and supervises Master works for students of Pharmacy Faculty, Medical University of Warsaw and also of the other biotechnological, chemical and biological Faculties. Studies on:- cytotoxic and genotoxic mechanism of action of anthracyclines - commonly used anticancer drugs
- increase of antitumour efficacy of antineoplastic drugs when combined with non-steroid antiinflammatory agents
- relationship between antioxidative enzymes activity in the cells and their sensitivity to anthracyclines
- influence of DNA repair activity and the specified DNA damages on cytotoxic activity of anthracyclines
- possible correlation between apoptotic activity of anthracyclines and cells sensitivity to these drugs
- elaboration of the methods for vitamins determination in pharmaceutical preparations and biological samples using HPLC technique
- adaptation of chiral liquid chromatography for determination of enantiomeric purity of the tested compounds
- mechanisms of vitamins action
- searching for the new medicines from the group of inhibitors of angiotensin-converting enzymes and renin inhibitors - evaluation of their activity in vitro
- practical use of capillary electrophoresis for pharmaceutical analysis
- organic and biosynthetic glycoproteins used in therapy
- analysis of gene expression profiles induced by xenobiotics in the chosen cell lines with use of DNA microarray and RT-PCR
- immunological activity of pharmacopoeial herbal medicinal products
- antitumour and antiangiogenic activity of the mutated forms of plasminogen-activator type-1 inhibitor PAI-1
